District 7 Gold Series - Virginia Motorsports Park

The District 7 Gold Series invaded the Virginia Motorsports Park on July 2nd for Round 8 of the series. VMP is located just south of Petersburg, Virginia, in a little town called Dinwiddie. They offered a Saturday practice and Quads also run on Saturday afternoon, just like the Southfork event. If you have never been to VMP, it is one of the finest facilities around, they have nice showers with air conditioning, hot water, and a great track just too top things off.

As the trend has been all year, some really good racing was seen in every class on the track. In the 125 and 250 A classes Ryan Price had the field covered the first motos of both classes as well as the first Collegeboy moto. Robert Kraft did his best to get around Ryan, but just couldn’t get past him, so he got second in both motos of 125 and 250A for second overall. Steven Helton held on in both classes to bring home third overall in both classes.

In the 125 and 250 B classes three riders battled it out up front with the rest of the pack doing their best to get into the mix. Casey Stemper won all of the motos in both classes, but the racing was much better than the result show. In the second moto of 250 B Corey Wilson was leading, but lost the front end and went down allowing Casey to get around him, and Corey finished second to take the second overall. In 125 B it was Zach Lee that was pursuing Casey, but he had to settle for second in both motos for second overall. It was some very good racing and those guys earned their finishing positions.

The C classes also saw some very good racing with James White winning the 250 C class and taking third in the 125 C class. James Magee did what he had to do in 125 C to protect his points lead with a fifth place overall keeping the other points contenders behind him. Ryan Henderson finished third in the 250 C class doing the same as James Magee and keeping the points contenders behind him as well. Michael Kosky is trying as hard as he can to make up some ground on the points leaders, but just fell a little short with an eighth in 125 C and a ninth in 250 C.

Senior A was also a good race between Brett Friedel and Andy Delauder, with Brett getting the advantage and taking the win in both motos and the first overall. In the first moto Brett got the holeshot and it was his race to loose. In the second moto Andy stepped it up a notch and was there with Brett on the holeshot. Brett had to work a little harder to get free of Andy and eventually went on to take the win. In Senior B the battle was between Joseph Kromer and John Henderson with both of them winning a moto. Kromer was second in the second moto, but still got the first overall because Henderson was third in the first moto.

The youth classes are always fun to watch for more than one reason. They have some really good riders and they are the future of the sport that we all enjoy so much. Shawn Rothstien brought home a third place overall in 51cc 4-6 and the 51cc oil injected classes. Tyler Kirschner took the victory in 51cc 7-8 by winning both motos. Tyler also brought home the 65cc 7-9 win with a second and a first. Collin Carol came in third in 65cc 10-11 and fifth in 85cc 7-11 doing what he has to do to protect his position in the points.

I would also like to welcome the Acton’s back to racing. Brian broke his leg at the end of last season and had a long recovery, but he is back racing with us in District 7. Brian also advanced to B class at the end of last year and had to wait all of this time just to ride in his first B race. Our next Gold series race is at Wolfmann’s MX in Pennsylvania on September 17th, they will also offer a Saturday practice on the 16th.  Check the website for more details.
