Enduro Reports by sissy C-rider and roving reporter Chuck Marler

It's mid - season for the District 7 enduro series and Chuck is working with Ken to get a list of the current signed up enduro riders for District 7 and post the mid season standings to the District 7 Enduro web page.

April 9, 2000 Greenbrier National Enduro
The Greenbrier National Enduro
Presented by Tri -County Sportsmen M.C.
Round 3 of the District 7 Enduro Series found us in Belleplain, New Jersey. Top National enduro riders showed up for this event, which the club advertised as "challenging". Greenbrier is known for challenging enduros, and we needed to be in shape for this one. After several weeks of soaking rain, we camped out in the field across from the Fire Hall.
Weather reports were scary. A cold front was moving in and more rain was predicted. Just as the sun went down, a series of thunderstorms moved in to drop 3 inches of rain on us. Nice to go to sleep to, but we woke up to two inches of SNOW and ice covering everything.
The event was a smashing success, with a grass test track and almost all woods trails. Southern Jersey sand drains really well, but there were still lots of DNF's, with District 7 rider Eric Johnson making the best showing from our group in the C-open class on his 96 XR-400.
Coached along by District 7 rider Pat Sullivan, Eric is whipping your esteemed roving reporter's butt at every event.

May 14, 2000 Pine Hill Enduro
Presented by Central Jersey Competition Riders
Round 4 of the District 7 Enduro Series took us to the Lebanon State Forest, camping under the stars, with hot showers and good friends. Who could ask for more? We got to review advanced trick enduro engineering designs by the always innovative and beautiful Evelyn Sullivan, who had a great day riding the women's class.
We managed to get Nicole Melander and Bill Huber out to this race and they had a good time exploring all of New Jersey and ALMOST made it up to the New York state line when they lost the trail. A thunderstorm the night before the race removed all the dust factor and provided great loamy trail for a fast ride through the woods.
Speed averages were just right, keeping everyone on time most of the day. This years Pine Hill was a fantastic event, bar none. District 7 rider Ray Gamache had a strong showing, finishing first in the C-vet class again at Pine Hill after 1st place finishes at Sandy Lane and Curly Fern, and now advancing to B rider. Congratulations to Ray!!

May 28 Broad Mountain Enduro
Presented by the Reading Off Road Riders
Round 5 of the District 7 Enduro Series was a good tough rock run.
So kids, we have had fun playing in the south jersey sand and trees, but now it's time to take the District 7 enduro series to the mountains and the rocks for the Broad Mountain, Green Marble, and Foggy Mountain enduros. Worried? Don't be. C riders will ride a shortened course for these events. And here's a PLUS! The Green Marble and Foggy Mountain are "Closed course" so you don't need a street legal mount to enter! So come on out and join the fun!
The early morning start for the Broad Mountain enduro was a water crossing. Recent rains had the creek running high which soaked more than a few riders and drowned more than a few trusty metal mounts. Challenging trails and typical Pennsylvania rocks gave the club and riders enough work to make everyone happy and keep them all busy. and BIG KUDOS to RORR!!!! This year the club organized a Saturday trail ride for the wives and kids which got rave reviews. Pennsylvania is beautiful this time of year and always makes for good camping on Memorial Day weekend.

June 4 Green Marble Enduro
Presented by the Green Marble Enduro Riders
Round 6 of the District 7 Enduro Series was another good rock run with Robert Mohn taking Grand Champion honors from the A-200 class. Perfect weather made for some tough rock sections and a long day. Your esteemed reporter was glad to be working that run, and thoroughly enjoyed the company of his fellow checkpoint work crew members. Riders blasted into our checkpoints tired, thirsty, and late. District 7 rider Paul Layer reported riding this as his first enduro ever, finished and had a GREAT time!
Great views from the mountains, and the trail sections are maturing and improving since the first year the club held this enduro here near Tower city a couple of years ago.
District 7 rider Pat Sullivan had a darn good showing of 8th place out of 21 of the B-Seniors, While Evelyn pulled second place in the womens.. (drum roll please) and District 7 rider Daniel Drew brought home Overall honors in the C class!! Congratulations Dan!!!
(Geez, this guy is in my class too.... bummer for me)
So get those bark busters polished up...
6 of the 10 events are run, but that doesn't mean you can't get in on the action and STILL qualify for points and maybe get a trophy at the District 7 awards banquet!
