Curly Fern Enduro - March 19, 2000
Round 1 of the D7 and ECEA series
schedules.
South Jersey Enduro Riders put on a great event only 170 miles from
Frederick.
Classic south Jersey trails and spring rains. Who could ask for more
fun?
We found this description on the rider information sheet "...in the Pine
Barrens you will get to see what happens to trees when they die, we call
these log crossings".
The area had recieved lots of rain, and we happily cut where it said
"Welcome to The Badlands" out of our roll charts when we saw resets
around that section of trail Sunday morning.
The trails were fantastic, with test section after test section laid
out,
seperated by resets, mudholes, and fire cuts to let the slowest riders
catch back up on time.
The second half of the race started with an 18 mph timekeeping trail and
some mud bogs from recent rains which stuck a few folks, including me.
District 7 rider Bill Harrall pulled me out of one of them, and great
trail workers helped me out of another one. District 7 rider Jeff Johns,
racing his first enduro as an "A" rider, brought home first place honors
in the A-200 class. Congratulations Jeff!!!

Sandy Lane enduro - March 26 -
Round 2 of the D7 and ECEA series
schedules.
After a little rain for a few days to make the ground nice and soft, we
have georgous weather for a beautiful early morning start.
The Meteor Motorcycle club sent us through lots of whooped out fire
cuts, and a load of ignorant tight trees, and it was all day long.
One rider, huffing and puffing, commented to me on the trail "This isn't
the normal Sandy Lane".
Some great water and mudholes that were a ton of fun, as long as you
didn't fall down or get stuck, rounded out the event
72 ground miles later, Fred Hoess picked up top honors. It was a good
event, and after last weeks workout at Curly Fern, we are ready to go
into the Greenbrier National Enduro next weekend.
